Laser Therapy is a Revolutionary Game Changer for Pain Relief & Healing

No drugs. No surgery. No painful procedures.

We have research-proven laser therapy in Tacoma with technologies options for leading-edge, FDA-cleared, natural pain relief and faster recovery.

Things you need to know about laser therapy pain relief and healing.

For a long time, medical care for pain relief meant having to use risky or addictive drugs, or undergo painful procedures or surgeries. Well… no more! There is a new, naturally effective alternative in town –– and that’s laser therapy. If you don’t know about laser therapy, its time to find out.

If you are tired of being given medication for pain, or painful and problematic injections, of concerned about the side-effects of medication, or concerned about long-term problems associated with popular medical pain procedures (such as steroid injections or radiofrequency ablasion procedures), its time to check out naturally effective laser therapy / photobiomodulation therapy.

Laser therapy, also known as low level laser, cold laser, or photobiomodulation therapy, is a widely researched, FDA-cleared approach for pain relief, and biostimulation to promote injury recovery, as well as faster and better tissue healing. At Proactive Spine Care and Tacoma Laser Center, we help people get great results by selecting cases properly, using the best laser technologies, and enhancing results with insightful recommendations to target positive effects, such as reducing tissue strain and promoting functional conditioning.

Other things to know about laser therapy.

Laser therapies are safe, effective, and affordable. Most people qualify for and do well with laser therapy, but there might be special considerations before considering laser therapy, such as photosensitivity caused by certain medications, active infection, or direct application over a cancerous tumor or the pregnant uterus.

We are your laser therapy chiropractor in Tacoma. Why? Here’s the story:

At Proactive Spine Care, we were one of the first clinics, if not the very first, in Washington State to utilize low level laser therapy in patient care. Back in 2001, Dr. McMillin first stumbled across information about infrared laser therapy use in the 2001 issue of National Geographic, in an article discussing challenges with health care in space, which reported that space researchers were using infrared light to successfully treat tough problems like third degree burns and wound healing. That caused Dr. McMillin to research further, obtain a laser unit from oversees, and start investigational testing with patients. Results were so good, even surprisingly good, that Dr. McMillin assisted in the process to obtain open clearance for use in Washington State. Formal approval was passed, and we have been helping patients with laser therapy ever since.

Because of the consistent positive result and outcomes we were seeing g in patient care, and overwhelmingly positive research published over time, we opened Tacoma Laser Center at ProActive Spine Care, as a dedicated center of excellence for laser therapy and advanced-technology pain relief and healing.

Low level laser therapy has been recognized for its effectiveness by major institutions, and internationally recognized. Dr. McMillin has attended the World Association of Laser Therapy training, and even the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries validated low level laser (LLLT) effectiveness by opening coverage for laser therapy in the care of injuries workers because of effectiveness, cost, outcomes, and reduced relative risk compared to procedures already covered such as medications and injections.

Our first lasers were Class III lasers, which were highly effective, but over the years we have improved patient care with upgraded laser technology to include Class iV and Class IV Robotic lasers, with MLS dual-wavelength locked technology. We use the same lasers and laser technology that has been used at Johns Hopkins.

Our patients benefit from top laser therapy technology, effective protocols, advanced world-class laser training, and research-based applications of laser therapy and photobiomodulcation therapy for naturally effective options for pain relief, as well as accelerated and better healing.

Laser Therapy in Tacoma, WA

Advanced Healing at Our Chiropractic Clinic

If you’re dealing with pain, inflammation, or slow healing, low level laser therapy may help. At our chiropractic clinic in Tacoma, WA, we use this safe, non-invasive treatment to reduce pain and support natural healing.

Also called cold laser therapy, low level laser therapy (LLLT) uses focused light energy to help injured tissue repair itself. It does not burn or cut the skin. Instead, it works at the cellular level to improve how your body heals.

What is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low level laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate damaged cells. When the light reaches the injured area, it helps:

  • Increase blood flow
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Decrease pain
  • Speed up tissue repair
  • Improve nerve function

This therapy is cleared by the FDA for pain management and tissue healing. It is painless and requires no downtime.

Conditions Treated with Cold Laser Therapy

At our Tacoma chiropractic clinic, we use laser therapy to treat many common conditions, including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Sciatica
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Knee pain and knee arthritis
  • Hip pain
  • Ostoarthrisis
  • Trigeminal neuralcia
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • TMJ
  • Whiplash
  • Shoulder pain and rotator cuff
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Sprains and strains
  • Sports injuries
  • Post-surgical care
  • Post-herpetic neuralgia
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Arthritis

Low level laser therapy can be used alone or combined with chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, or rehabilitation exercises.

How Low Level Laser Therapy Works

Simply put, laser therapy works by delivering light energy and photons deep into tissues. This energy boosts and supercharges cell activity and increases the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the fuel your cells use to repair damage. Laser therapy also reduces inflammatory mediators, reduces pain, and stimulated injury repair.

As a result, patients often experience:

  • Reduced swelling
  • Faster recovery
  • Less stiffness
  • Improved mobility
  • Long-lasting pain relief

Many patients notice improvement after just a few sessions. Chronic, complicated, or difficult cases may require more prolonged treatment. Since laser therapy is light therapy, effective care relies on proper dosage, and repeated dosage applications across time to allow tissues to gain the proper physiological response. Although healing always takes time, properly applied, low level laser therapy usually accelerated and improves that process.

What Kind of Laser Therapy is Used at Tacoma Laser Therapy Center?

ProActive Spine Care and Tacoma Laser Therapy Center uses both Class III low level laser therapy and Class VI high intensity laser therapy. Our Class IV high intensity lasers use MLS multi-wave lock technology, including robotic lasers, to maximize depth of penetration and broad positive physiological effect. Both kinds of lasers are FDA clears, safe and highly effective. The lasers we use to help patients with natural pain relief and accelerated healing for conditions such as injuries, osteoarthritis, neuropathy, whiplash, disc herniation and radiculopathy, TMJ, tendinitis, bursitis, and more, focus on specific wavelengths of photon energy that have been shown to maximize pain relief, anti-inflammatory effect, and tissue healing.

What to Expect During Treatment

Laser therapy sessions are quick and comfortable. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Your chiropractor will evaluate your condition and make proper dosage and series recommendations.
  • The laser device is placed over the injured area.
  • You may feel a mild warmth or nothing at all. You just relax and let the laser do its work.
  • Treatment usually takes 5–15 minutes per area.

There is no downtime or special precautions. You can return to work or normal activities right away.

Some insurance covers laser therapies, but some insurance companies are resistant to cover new technologies even when there is compelling research and positive effects and outcomes demonstrated from patient use.

Laser therapy usually works best across a series of applications to maintain photon energy dosage across time to maximize physiological effect (pain relief, anti-inflammatory effect, wound healing, nerve regeneration). However, some patients report positive results right away. Every patient is different, and factors relating to the condition such as complications and chronicity can effect laser therapy results and response rates.

Power and wavelength are the two main factors, and the combination of those helps calculate a therapeutic dosage.

Power and wavelength have to be right for laser to reach effectiveness. That is one of the reasons that common LED lights that can be purchased online or in stores does not come even close to the type of effectiveness as clinical lasers offer. laser power and wavelength help calculate target photon dosage. The other factor is that laser therapy work across time using a series of laser therapy sessions to maximize physiological response. Although laser speeds relief and healing, ideal relief and healing always take time, and laser is used to both speed and facilitate that.

Laser therapies are becoming more widespread in use every year. New technologies sometimes take a long time to become more widely adopted, and cheaper laser therapies make some health car providers continue to really on old procedures like injections and surgeries that frankly make the provider more money.

The goal of laser therapy is to correct the underlying problem so that care does not have to continue long term. However, some conditions might already have a permanent problem, such as is typical for post-surgical care, or degenerative conditions. In these cases, some patients report benefit form occasional “booster” laser therapy sessions from time to time.

Laser therapy results are also typically enhanced with treatments such as exercise and rehabilitation, which further reduces the need for therapy being needed again, especially if those enhancements can be continued regularly at home.

Laser therapy is surprisingly affordable, and far less expensive compared to long-term medical management, injections, or surgical procedures. Effective laser therapy is also less risky than those other procedures, and laser therapy is always less costly compared to treatments that don’t work.

Safe. Effective. Scientific.

We have known laser therapy is safe, effective and affordable for patients for years. But don’t take our word for it. There are thousands of research studies that have evaluated laser therapy, and more coming out every month. Here are just a few examples of studies supporting laser therapy.
