Thumbs down for spinal injections -- AGAIN!

According to a recent study in the journal Evidence Based Medicine [2015; 20(1):16], epidural injections for spinal stenosis has increased dramatically since 2000.  This is despite the fact that strong evidence supporting the use of epidural stared injections is lacking.  This article underscores, once again, that spinal steriod injections are overused and overrated.

Stenosis is a closing down of the space around the spinal cord, nerves or nerve roots.  This can be a contributor to back and extremity symptoms, and can also complicate the recovery of these symptoms.

The message this article sends is that it is a good idea to seek alternatives to epidural steroid injections. Chirorpactic care is high on the list of options to consider for natural and conservative symptoms related to spinal stenosis.

It is also critical to address the underlying cause of stenosis -- usually related to degenerative changes in the spinal bones and discs.  Chiropractic care is a godsend for many patients looking to control stenosis symptoms and focus on restoring as much health as possible to spinal degeneration and arthritis.
